Why your organisation should implement multi-factor authentication

Hackers are becoming increasingly deceptive and it’s often very easy to be tricked into clicking links on emails that look legitimate. Identifying what is a phishing email can be difficult. If you accidentally click on a phishing email, stealing personal information like bank accounts and credit cards can be easy to commit by hackers.

At CommSys, we frequently receive support tickets from customers requesting assistance with their emails being compromised or being hacked. Recipients of cyber-attacks may receive emails from legitimate contacts whose accounts have been unknowingly compromised, making it extremely hard to identify legitimate emails from phishing attempts.

Apart from suspecting all emails and keeping an eye out for anything that seems odd, there are some security features that our support team can implement on your Email Accounts to help minimise this risk.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is one of the most effective controls an organisation can implement to prevent an unauthorised person from gaining access to a device or network and accessing sensitive information.

Traditional passwords are no longer secure enough anymore. To increase security, we suggest implementing a multi-factor authentication solution. MFA is an electronic authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more forms of identity verification before they’re allowed access to a website, network or application.

MFA is a must-have for cloud storage accounts and communication applications as it makes it significantly more difficult for anyone to breach your accounts. In fact, in March 2021, Microsoft engineers said that 99.9% of the account compromise incidents they deal with could have been blocked by a MFA solution. The great thing with MFA is that it is one of the easiest methods to keep your information safe.

Our team at CommSys can help setup MFA for your organisation and also implement Microsoft Office 365 Advanced security features (depending on your Office 365 License). Some of these features include weblink scanning to help you avoid the temptation to click on fake links.

In addition, these enabled notifications also warn you if someone is trying to hack into your account. If you are warned, this is a good indication that it is time to change passwords.

We cannot stress the importance of implementing the above steps for the security of your email accounts and network security. For more information on implementing MFA for you, please get in touch with our Support Team on 1300 553 084 option 2.
